"Subconscious Projection"
A journey into the subconscious—where emotions take shape, and unspoken fears manifest. This editorial explores the delicate balance between beauty and destruction, between mastering one’s inner demons and being consumed by them.
In Japanese Theatre, the Hannya mask is used to represent jealousy so intense that it distorts the soul, transforming sorrow into something monstrous. In Greek mythology, Medusa suffers a similar fate. Once a woman of extraordinary beauty, she is cursed into something fearsome, her hair writhing with serpents, her gaze turning those who look upon her to stone.
Both figures symbolise the danger of unchecked emotion, but they also speak to power—how pain, when controlled, can become strength. The snake, like the Hannya mask, is a metaphor for transformation, a reminder that destruction and renewal are two sides of the same force.
As Art Director and stylist, my vision was to channel this metamorphosis into a striking fashion narrative. Snake-like hair, evocative of Medusa’s myth, coils through the composition, embodying both chaos and control.
Before beauty turns to terror, before emotion turns to ruin—can we master what lies beneath, or are we fated to become what we fear?
